Vast improvement in number of Newly Qualified Solicitor positions

June 28, 2012

Good news on the Newly Qualified Solicitor front!

Here at CapeClarke, we are pleased to report that all of the vital statistics relating to trainee solicitors qualifying into Leeds and Manchester law firms make much better reading than in the last few years. In particular, the:

  • Number of trainee solicitors retained by commercial law firms has increased;
  • Number of external NQ solicitor positions created by commercial law firms has increased;
  • Number of trainee solicitors qualifying into transactional areas, such as corporate, banking and real estate, has increased;
  • Percentage of trainee solicitors qualifying into their first choice discipline; and
  • NQ Solicitor salaries have generally risen and, in many case, are very close to pre-recession levels again.

It has been a very positive Summer, with most firms having already completed their internal processes and a significant number of those trainee solicitors unfortunately released from the training firms already securing NQ positions elsewhere.

Having said that, there are still a number of NQ solicitor vacancies waiting to be filled, particularly in corporate, insolvency, real estate, real estate litigation, banking litigation and construction.

If you are looking for a NQ position or would just like some general advice about options in the market, please feel free to contact Terry Cape or Chris Clarke on 0113 2385965.
